Free-cutting steels not intended for heat treatment
Steels with high workability and a low carbon content
Free-cutting steels not intended for heat treatment are steels in which the low carbon content allows the maximum workability to be achieved, and are therefore suitable for high-speed machining.
Among the most common in the free-cutting steel category, they are designed to be implemented at the thermal state in which they are provided, without further treatments. It is increasingly customary to also use these steels for some thermochemical treatments of surface hardening: in this case, an in-depth knowledge of the process and some precautions is necessary.
Rodacciai offers a range of free-cutting steels not intended for heat treatment that are able to satisfy various machining requirements.
RANGE Free-cutting steels not intended for heat treatment
-
Rodacciai Mark
11SMN30
Steel name
11SMn30 - Nr.1.0715
Steel with the addition of sulfur only, with good machinability.
-
Rodacciai Mark
AVZ
Steel name
11SMn37 - Nr.1.0736
Steel with the addition of sulfur only, in higher quantities than in 11SMn30; increased machinability at the expense of a slightly more accentuated fragility
-
Rodacciai Mark
LED108
Steel name
11SMnPb30 - Nr.1.0718
Free-cutting steel with the addition of lead to increase chip removal productivity. It is the most common type in Germany. Good machinability.
-
Rodacciai Mark
PS113 / TELYX
Steel name
11SMnPb37 - Nr.1.0737
Free-cutting steel with the addition of lead similar to the previous one, but with a higher sulfur content. It is the most common type in Italy and France. Excellent machinability. The Telyx version has a further improved machinability with respect to PS113.
-
Rodacciai Mark
TELBY
Steel name
(11SMnPb30+Te+Bi) (Nr.1.0718)
Steel with the addition of sulfur, lead, tellurium, and bismuth; allows a very high cutting speed of the tool with excellent finishes. Also has a particular cold deformability.
-
Rodacciai Mark
TELBYPLUS
Steel name
(11SMnPb37+Te+Bi) (Nr.1.0737)
Steel similar to the previous one, but with a higher sulfur content; reaches the maximum levels of machinability, combining all of the advantages tied to productivity in a single product.
-
Rodacciai Mark
PR60
Steel name
28SMnPb28
This steel is not unified in the standards. It is used when you want to obtain a mechanical resistance of circa 600 MPa, not achievable with other low-carbon free-cutting steels, while maintaining good machinability. Not suitable for heat treatments.

Rodacciai Mark
1215
Steel name
1215
Automatic Steel of American use with the addition of sulfur only , with good workability
